ArchiXML is an architectural markup language that is based upon the XML specification. It corresponds to the structure of architecture as well as the procedure of modelling virtual architecture. It provides a straight-forward way of modelling very detailed individual buildings, but also creating and editing very large city models.
The structure of architecture is implicitely provided by the language definition. Therefore only the form and appearance of the building's elements must be defined and applied by using appropriate rules. These rules are based on universal architectural concepts such as proportion, rhythm and symmetry, which are intuitively and easy to understand.
The style definitions are not dependent on a particular building model and can be applied to several different models to create variations of a certain architectural style. By combining various styles it is possible to create an unlimited number of plausible building models. This is considerably faster and more effective than using traditional CAD software. The models can be easily edited and adjusted at any time. The style definitions itself can be combined and managed in style libraries.
